Professional Golfers Association (PGA) Championship is an annual golf tournament of America established in 1916. It is usually played in mid of August. PGA Championship is one of the four major championships in professional golf.

In 1916, the first PGA Championship was played at Siwanoy Country Club in Bronxville, New York. Jim Barnes from England won the Championship, but due to World War I the event was interrupted for two years. In 1919, Barnes came back to capture his second consecutive Championship. Denny Shute captured the PGA Championship title in 1936 and 1937, becoming the first back-to-back winner before Tiger Woods in 2000. In 1943, the Championship was not played because of World War II.

In 1958, the format of the PGA Championship was changed from match play to stroke play. In 1971, the PGA Championship was played in Florida as the first major of the calendar year. In 1963, Jack Nicklaus won his first of a record-tying five PGA Championships. It is an official money event on the PGA Tour, the Japan Golf Tour and the European Tour with a purse of $7.5 million in 2008.

PGA Championship has been held at a large number of venues, some of the early ones now quite obscure, but currently it is usually staged by one of a small group of celebrated courses, each of which has also hosted several other leading events.
The first PGA Championship was held in 1916 at Siwanoy Country Club in Eastchester, New York and the winner, Jim Barnes, received $500 and a diamond studded gold medal donated by Rodman Wanamaker.
