The Ryder Cup 2014 at Gleneagles

The Ryder Cup has experienced in both The Celtic Manor in 2010 and Medinah in 2012 two of the most exciting tournaments in the history of golf's premier team event. Whether it was McDowell's heroics to claim victory in Wales, or Olazabal's magnificent 12 who recorded what will undoubtedly be coined Seve Sunday in snatching victory from the claws of defeat in turning over a 10-6 deficit to win 14.5 - 13.5 at Medinah. Whilst we will always look back at these great golfing spectacles, we must look forward with great anticipation at the prospect of the 2014 Ryder Cup which will take place at one of Europe's finest golf resorts, Gleneagles. Set in stunning Perthshire countryside, the Ryder Cup will return to Europe where the heroes of 2012 - Poulter, Kaymer, Rose and McIlroy will be hoping to hold onto Europe's most coveted prize - the Samuel Ryder Trophy The Ryder Cup is a golf trophy, donated by Samuel Ryder, which is awarded biennially in an event called the "Ryder Cup Matches" between teams from Europe and the United States. The competition is jointly administered by the PGA of America and the PGA European Tour, and is contested every two years, the venue alternating between courses in the United States and Europe.
The competition began following an exhibition match in 1926 between a team comprising American professionals against a similar one drawn from the British PGA on the East Course, Wentworth Club, Virginia Water, Surrey, UK. The first competition took place in 1927.
